Brunch with a living legend

My brother and I had brunch this morning with one of the Watergate attorneys who helped bring down Nixon. Now well into his seventies, James (Jim) Hamilton is still sharp and quite active. Also a prince of a guy. I played a Flatt & Scruggs kind of duet recently with one of his sons who has a real day job in New York, but moonlights as a banjo player by night for fun. His kids and ours stay in touch, and we have been trying to get to get together in D.C. for years now. This has been one pleasant Democrat-filled trip for me.

But my day job calls, and I have to get back to Europe tomorrow. I'll try to avoid getting blown up.

I really envy you your contacts! I don't envy you how busy you are, though.

But he's probably bound to silence for life concerning some of the more evil stuff Nixon pulled, just because of the effect it could have on the national mood, even today.

As for me, I'm tempted to sing that song of Warren Zevon, "I'll sleep when I'm dead," except that he now is.
