The years between 613 and 910 or so were invented by medieval bureaucrats; we are actually living in 1708 AD right now.
Sure, this erases the entire Gupta empire in India, as well as the Tang dynasty in China. Sure, this jumps from Mohammed being a visionary merchant to Muslims ruling Spain overnight. But, still, I like the audacity of the idea.
