Here's the thing: I have two Kindle Android devices - a tablet, and now my phone. Husband set up two Amazon Kindle accounts but didn't label them other than device 1 and device 2, and I don't know which is which.... so I want to order a few free or $0.99 books that I'll actually like to read, but also that I can send to my different devices so I can figure out which is which ....
I like mysteries, history, art history, gardening books ... some thrillers. Any suggestions welcome.
Thanks!

(6,336 posts)Pixel of Ink and The E-Reader Cafe are a few of them.
Another suggestion--- your public library. Most of them have some sort of e-book system set up and you borrow them for a set period (2-3 weeks) and then the file is deleted when the loan expires (no fines or anything). Mine's through an app called Overdrive and it's great (books you would not get for free). In addition, some major cities let all residents of the state (NYC offers all NY residents a free NYC library card) a card and you can access more than 1 library.
That said, I found a great freebie on Amazon a few years ago that was pure trash and awesome (so much that I'd recommend it. Revenge of the Homecoming Queen.

My library is great; I just haven't taken advantage of it yet for e-books. I don't really enjoy e-reading, but I'd like to know which device I'm sending books to for whenever I travel, etc... or for books that aren't available in print.

(6,336 posts)The best way to set it up (at least through Overdrive) is assuming each device belongs to a different person (and that each person has their own card). The staff at your library should know what they're doing when it comes to setting up the e-reading (and audiobooks) and should be helpful.
Link SO's card to the account on SO's device and your card to the account on your device.
E-reading grew on me but I also spend a lot of time on the road. It's a lot easier to pack a Kindle than a milk crate full of books. I also like it for when I'm riding a stationary bike at the gym (a lot easier to touch a device than turn a page while you're working out).
On Overdrive, when you log in, go to the webpage from the device you're looking to load it on (not your computer) and download it from there.
On Amazon, I (who don't yet have two Kindles set up but will soon) it will say send to Caroline's Kindle (I assume when I link another it will say X's Kindle).

(26,366 posts)As this list changes daily and the books are usually free for only a short period make sure any
book listed you are interested in still has a price of $0.00.

(10,952 posts)Kindle books. You can always search as free kindle books. A lot of classics (including Sherlock Holmes, Father Brown, etc.) available for free on little cost.
I would recommend signing up for the email of the daily deals. Also, go to BookBub and sign up for their daily email of book deals. You can specify what genres you like and also go and look at what is available in all the genres.
Also check out your local library. My local library offers both ebooks and audiobooks for free download. I look for books that can be downloaded for kindle. The book actually goes to your amazon.com account and then you download it to your device. I have read and listened to so many books from the library. If available, your library might be the best way to obtain the most books at no cost. I can give you a lot of suggestions if you find out that your library has ebook loans available.
My latest obsession has been cozy mysteries (which I had never heard of until I ran across the term in a mystery I was reading.

(6,336 posts)It will tell you the top 10 (or 20) bestsellers on the right hand column. Once you're on their bestsellers page, there's a tab that you can see the top 100 free (and you can narrow by genre)
I scour there from time to time to get freebies (and deals-- I got some good political books for $1.99 each).

(12,723 posts)That way you can read your ebooks on whichever device you have handy. When you order from amazon it will ask you which device to send to but if you go through the kindle interface itself it will pull the books directly to whatever device you request from.
