I used to have my own web site for this stuff, before "blogs" existed ... god I'm old ... but now I only maintain one for my business, which is my professional life & I keep that separate from my political opinions.

I'll check out postimg.org!

And then go to the site and browse for the image and "whoosh", it will create an image and a URL you can use to post the image here or on other sites.

Doing it the first time might take practice and then you'll remember how to do it...

http://postimage.org/

Then "select file to upload"

Then you have an option to resize (it's good to go with 800x600 or 1024x768).

Then go down and select "direct link" and either copy the url that ends in "jpg" or press the "copy to clipboard" button and paste into your DU post or reply.

Give it a shot!

Much easier than photobucket - the resize option is great!

west side of Black Rock Pass, I think. (We're getting to the point in the year when I start neglecting my work in favor of looking through old maps and photos and thinking about hiking - I'll be in that phase for the next ~4.5 months... )

Now in their favor, photobucket keeps things in albums, but it all takes time, and an account, and postimg is instantaneous.

Remember those? That was back when the Commodore 64 was supreme, but it only had 64k of memory. The Timex/Sinclair had more (72k I think?), plus every key on the keyboard had 5 functions (at least) which made it SO much easier to write your own code back in the days when you HAD to write your own code for damn near every app you wanted, & I did.

From that I went to building my own IBM PC, then XT, then through a dozen or more multi-core high-performance PCs for video editing/processing (with RAID array drives & multi-terabyte rendering servers, where the editing PC submitted its job to 20-30 rendering PCs) ... to today.

Where I find myself unable to paste a freaking pic into a DU msg. Seems like I need to put the pic somewhere (internet, server?) then link to that file? As opposed to just paste/embed the pic?

Damn technology ...

& thanks for your help

do you have the picture saved on your computer? in a folder?

start an account at photobucket dot com

you can click upload a picture, it will ask you to select your folder, then when you have the folder open type in the name of the photo, click open. it will upload to photobucket. THEN click on the picture that it just uploaded, on the right side of the page it says: share links. click on "direct" & it will turn yellow & show you it's been "copied"

then come here and right click to paste.

done & done

The issue is when I look at DU now, instead of seeing text like "Boehner Decides He's an Idiot," I just see underscores. Like the name of post #1 is _________. Post #2 is ___________. Post #3 is __________, et al.

Just me? Might go away tomorrow?

Moving on ...

I would try that first.

Then, if the same problem exists with other browsers but only with DU, I would log out of DU and see if it's the same or not.

If it's different, then it must be your account settings.

Here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=myaccount

And hope that the top two under time zone are set for classic or standard, then play with those to see if it changes.

Once you've tried all these things, a cold start is in order, I guess.

Hope it works, one of these tricks.
