Wow! Major planetary alignment this month!

As I was leaving my house this morning, I was treated to a spectacular display of 3 planets (Mars, Venus, Jupiter) and the moon lined up in the eastern sky-- and Mercury was just starting to pop up over the horizon as the sun rose.

October is going to be an interesting month for skywatchers

No one talks about Mercury Direct. That is, after it retrogrades for 21 days every 3 mos, it turns forward. To see how accurate this is, do this: make a list of what's been pending for you for about the last 16 days; especially technical issues. You just couldn't get them to solve themselves. Now, Mercury goes forward in 5 days, on the 10th. Watch how, gradually, each of them start to "magically solve themselves." It's the best part of the Mercury Retrograde period: when it's over.

At around 4:30 Japan time, the moon and Venus were as close together as I have ever seen them. And it was as if one point of the moon's crescent was pointing right at Venus.
