She really likes it. She's using it all the time. I did "good santa" on this.
Now that i've played with it a bit more, i think i need to get one.
It's a Digilab. Cheapie, but who cares. It works good, has a big 10 by 6 screen and is just fun.
I'm so glad she likes it. I thought she would think i was shaming her for being a luddite. Instead, she loves it.

My eyes got old and turned on me
and
a dear friend sent me a Nook
LOVE the adjustable typeface and ability to have background light dimmed so it won't hurt my eyes.

(14,400 posts)She refused our offer to get her one for ages until her local paper threatened to go digital only. Now she's got one and she's loving it. She uses it for everything now.

(4,033 posts)I got it free from Verizon, when I changed the account from my Dad's name to mine. Mom loves it. I download 3 digital books from the library to the Tablet, she reads them it a few weeks and then I download more books.
It's much better for me also, because I don't have to order the books in large print and then take a trip to the library to pick them up and then return them.

(265 posts)I bought it a couple of years ago as an upgrade to an older tablet. My husband always made fun of me being "glued to the screen" but since his laptop broke I have had a hard time wrestling it away from him. He now says we are sharing a tablet. I think I need to get him one of his own.

(65,021 posts)... i might get myself the exact same one. Still need the laptop because i don't want to drop money on a keyboard and stuff.
My mom was a transciptionist so i knew how to touch type before i knew cursive. I learned to type around 1963. So, i need an actual keyboard.
But, if i can find card games for a tablet, i'm in. Maybe in a couple week.
I thought these things were more expensive.

(265 posts)Which was cool but made it a little bulky/heavy. I don't mind the on-screen "keyboard" and the tablet apps will recognize speech. It's great for travel. I have many books downloaded so I don't have to carry around dead trees, and we can communicate via email/Facebook and check travel arrangements (flights/hotels/restaurants) anywhere we have wi-fi. Our latest go-to app is AirB&B. We rarely stay in hotels on our travels if we can help it!

(65,021 posts)But, for short bursts. If i'm working on something that requires a lot of text, i need a more tactile keyboard. I can't type 100 words a minute on a screen keyboard, but i can on a laptop keyboard.
My wife is downloading library books and magazines already. Also, since Xfinity is our ISP, i showed her how to stream through them. Then she even knows the channel line up. So, she actually watched the cooking channel while she was waiting at the doctor yesterday.

(1,328 posts)Just had to have one.
I have used it a few times, not very good with it and after my granddaughter showed me a few times how to email pictures and after deleting them I hope I have got it.
It does take nice pictures but I still prefer the desktop over either a laptop or the table.

(65,021 posts)She never even used her smartphone. But, she's working this thing like she's been doing it 10 years. I'm so glad she's digging it.
