(54,502 posts)And so we do. Of course, to you, we're already in "another country."
If we suddenly had an extra gazillion, maybe we'd buy a small apartment in New York City, since one of our daughters lives there, as does a cousin and my sister. But maybe not. We just don't see putting up with the paperwork of maintaining a residence where we don't reside. Let the McCains and the Romneys of the world have that headache.
*as for Paris--I have to run down there once a week for work anyway. I don't need to put up with the French bureaucracy any more than I do now.

(31,415 posts)But since my 10 ticket play yielded only $4.00 for matching the powerball on one ticket,
I won't be buying any new homes any time soon.

(2,104 posts)Being able to move out of Indiana is the reason I buy lottery tickets. Just one though, I figure I'll be able to move sooner if I don't spend the moving money on lottery tickets. LOL

(27,223 posts)I'd go back to my roots in the Pacific Northwest, and I'd get dual citizenship in St. Kitts.
With the amount of $$ available in this Powerball, I'd move as much of my family with me as wanted to come.
Then, I'd travel. A lot.
Then, I'd set up a foundation to start giving the money away.
I don't need a billion dollars, but many others could be helped with parts of it.

(2,805 posts)The clear skies and night views are simply amazing.
The big bugs are scary but in an urban setting they are probably manageable. But one look at their skies makes you want to live there.

(29,414 posts)Of course, their brand of conservatism is liberal by our standards. Yet, I've known a few Aussies that were as narrow-minded as our crop of conservatives.
NZ has the same problem with their National Party, and I hear complaints about their disregard to the environment from my GF from time to time. From the looks on Wikipedia of their last election, National got almost double the votes of their Labour party.
Now, if you're afraid of snakes, there are none in NZ

(38,349 posts)I know where I'll go if everything turns to shit, but I ain't telling.
My wife and I would have been a very affluent couple if we'd had any sense and left the U.S.A. when we were young.
But here we were when shit fell out of the sky and the U.S.A. medical industrial complex left us with a negative net worth, living paycheck to paycheck. And then we sent our kids to college...
I graduated from college without any loans. One could actually work and keep ahead of college expenses then.
My kids had scholarships and they worked too, and still we all had to take out student loans.
