Post a movie with an actor who just doesn't belong.
Someone who maybe you never noticed was there.
As an example I suggest Young Frankenstein with Gene Hackman as the Blindman.

(18,482 posts)I never saw it. IMHO they let anyone show up in Star Wars.

(8,217 posts)I guess a more serious example I can probably give would be...
Tom Cruise - Valkyrie... He played Tom Cruise, trying to be German, badly... It felt like everyone else was acting their parts, but he, he played himself.

(18,482 posts)IMHO Bryan Singer (producer and director) had box office attraction in mind over good casting.

(7,504 posts)Cruise looks like Stauffenberg. Competent film but Cruise was underwhelming to the point of boredom. He is capable, I always thought that Charlie Babbitt in Rainman was his best performance.

(18,482 posts)Cruise was great in Rainman.

(13,447 posts)A sports movie about an aging pitcher throwing the best game of his career and she thinks she's in a bad sappy love story.

(6,261 posts)Never did buy him as Bond either, though I enjoyed Golden Eye.

That was inspired!

(14,400 posts)George Clooney as Batman, Ben Affleck as Daredevil and Sylvester Stallone as Judge Dredd (I AM D' LAW!!!)

(18,482 posts)...which proves your point. Excellent! Same story with Affleck/Daredevil.
I like Stallone in Expendables 3 (I AM THE HAGUE!)

(50,562 posts)And I think I'm the only person in the world who does.
The core Batman-Mr. Freeze interplay - IF IT WAS THE ONLY THING IN THE FUCKING MOVIE! - in Batman and Robin would have made a fun, "Batman TV Show"-level of campy, movie.
If they would have rewritten the script to get rid of...
* Poison Ivy
* Bane
* the telescope shit
* Batgirl
* Robin
* and the "dying Alfred" story line...
...then studied Jack Nicholson's Joker to learn how to write a proper story arc for that kind of villain, it could have been a good movie. A villain that kills people by freezing them? Yeah, that could be fun if it was done right, but Batman and Robin is a case study in how to completely fuck up something that's unfuckable-up.

(7,504 posts)There were two movies made with them. One had Sally Kellerman and Dave Thomas. Another had Robert De Niro and Rene Russo. Never seen them, don't worry, hardly anybody did.
discntnt_irny_srcsm
(18,482 posts)...Jason Alexander as Boris. Not a bad fit IMO. I'm not sure how believable Russo is as Natasha. De Niro fits as Fearless Leader.

(4,858 posts)...I know he directed the film, but still--it was really more about his character than it was about Hoffa himself. And his scenes when he tried to be a tough guy! Just risible... For a couple of actors who should have been cast, but weren't: a young Sean Connery would have been a perfect Gully Foyle in a film version of *The Stars My Destination*...and Bruce Willis should have starred in a Philip K Dick biopic...
