I guess a more serious example I can probably give would be...

Tom Cruise - Valkyrie... He played Tom Cruise, trying to be German, badly... It felt like everyone else was acting their parts, but he, he played himself.

IMHO Bryan Singer (producer and director) had box office attraction in mind over good casting.

Cruise looks like Stauffenberg. Competent film but Cruise was underwhelming to the point of boredom. He is capable, I always thought that Charlie Babbitt in Rainman was his best performance.

A sports movie about an aging pitcher throwing the best game of his career and she thinks she's in a bad sappy love story.

I like Stallone in Expendables 3 (I AM THE HAGUE!)

And I think I'm the only person in the world who does.

The core Batman-Mr. Freeze interplay - IF IT WAS THE ONLY THING IN THE FUCKING MOVIE! - in Batman and Robin would have made a fun, "Batman TV Show"-level of campy, movie.

If they would have rewritten the script to get rid of...

* Poison Ivy
* Bane
* the telescope shit
* Batgirl
* Robin
* and the "dying Alfred" story line...

...then studied Jack Nicholson's Joker to learn how to write a proper story arc for that kind of villain, it could have been a good movie. A villain that kills people by freezing them? Yeah, that could be fun if it was done right, but Batman and Robin is a case study in how to completely fuck up something that's unfuckable-up.

There were two movies made with them. One had Sally Kellerman and Dave Thomas. Another had Robert De Niro and Rene Russo. Never seen them, don't worry, hardly anybody did.

...I know he directed the film, but still--it was really more about his character than it was about Hoffa himself. And his scenes when he tried to be a tough guy! Just risible... For a couple of actors who should have been cast, but weren't: a young Sean Connery would have been a perfect Gully Foyle in a film version of *The Stars My Destination*...and Bruce Willis should have starred in a Philip K Dick biopic...

Loved her in Cold Comfort Farm and Van Helsing - perfect fit. It's just the Army nurses pre-WWII weren't glamour girls.
