2nd date next week...movies....I haven't been to the movies, save one exception in years. I did see Star Wars.
I am not too picky, but I guess I don't want us to go see "How to be Single" on a date. Best save that for girls night.

(65,211 posts)A little slow for the first 40 minutes, but is pretty fun and, perhaps, inspiring at the end.

(56 posts)But it is starting to seem like David O. Russell movies are about his infatuation with JLaw. Not that I don't sympathize.

(4,033 posts)The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. That was about 4 years ago. I just hate paying near $10 to see a movie. I do wait till Fridays when Fios On Demand has movies for $3.99, I put them in "my library" and watch them at my leisure. It also helps my 85 year old mom to see some current films. I also copy them to a DVD for future play. (shh, don't tell anyone).
I will however breakdown when, Independence Day comes out. My one nephew and I have an ongoing joke, every time we see that Independence Day is on TV we text and tell the other. I can watch that film or The Day After Tomorrow any time. I'm just a fan of the 1990's disaster films.

(28,945 posts)Coen Brothers production which is usually a good bet. A light comedy about post war Hollywood.

(56 posts)Can't go wrong with the Coen Bros.

(3,569 posts)In fact better than that. I love the actor that has the lead role, Adonis Creed. And Stallone, an actor I cannot stand, is actually great in this movie.

(100,104 posts)It's great so far - they made Adonis a very real character and Rocky seem much more human than in the first couple of movies.

(12,132 posts)but not sure if that's a good choice for 2nd date material.
We've been married for almost 30 years so it was our Eleventymillionth date.
I'd second the Hail Caesar! suggestion. Can't go wrong with the Coens.
On a side note, our first (real*) date was skipping class to go see Red Dawn. I still have the ticket stub. Luckily, it was a terrible movie.
*we met at school and had many mutual friends and went on a lot of group things where we were both present but this was our fist time sneaking off together by ourselves. So poopoo to pundits who proclaim that movies are lousy first dates.

(100,104 posts)I want to see Hail Caesar but I have heard very mixed reviews on it. On one hand it is the Coen Bros, but on the other hand it is *PERIOD* Coen Bros, and they haven't been that good lately. I'll wait until it's on demand.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)to big action things. Hail Caesar can wait til Netflix or blu-ray or something. I got a decent-sized tv lol.
I've never been mad I watched a Coen bros movie. Some were greater than others but I am always entertained by them.
Can't say the same for many other directors.

(53,410 posts)I liked it, but I remember following the story so I wanted to see how it actually developed. It was very good and deserves the Oscar nomination. But being a story about priest pedophiles it might not be a good date movie unless both of you are on the same page.
rurallib
(62,451 posts)kind of an old fashioned movie.
"Big Short" and "Spotlight" both excellent. Would see "Spotlight" again in a second.

(14,276 posts)You might want to stream 9 seasons of "Trailer Park Boys" first to appreciate the humor. Two of the actors sport the ugliest haircuts in the history of the cinema.

(17,087 posts)It was released a couple weeks ago. Looks like a good date movie. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2338424/

The Martian was pretty good, too
