we had Alvin Ailey Dance Theater here in town for two nights this week at Memorial Auditorium on the Chapel Hill campus.
They come every year and we go just about every year! I love this dance company, and one of my very favorite pieces they do
is Sinner Man in Revelations. They close with Revelations every performance I've seen.
So I just thought I'd share an excerpt of Sinner Man with you that I found on youtube. This isn't the entire piece, but an abbreviated version.

with the Baryshnikov/Hines duet.
If you ever get a chance to see Alvin Ailey Dance Theater live, GO! They usually present a new piece every year when they come--this year it was Open Door,
which was fabulous. Matthew Rushing, who is the rehearsal director for AADT, also performed Love Songs, which was choreographed by Alvin Ailey in 1972.
Here he is performing an excerpt from Love Songs several years ago.

(31,395 posts)I grew up on the NYC Ballet, too. In fact, my ballet teacher tried to talk my parents into letting me audition for the School of the NYC Ballet,
but it was just as well my parents wouldn't go for it. Turns out I did not have the Balanchine body. I quit ballet when I was 14 and we moved
from NJ to California when my dad retired.
I've never been much of a fan of modern dance troupes, but I LOVE Alvin Ailey.
I saw Baryshnikov do Twyla Tharp's Push Come to Shove at an ABT Gala in L.A. in the 70's. He was so amazing.
