Name a song with a city or state in the title

Hippie From Olema - Jessie Colin Young/Youngbloods

Well I'm proud to be a hippie from Olema
Where we're friendly to the squares and all the straights
We still take in strangers if they're ragged
We can't think of anyone to hate

We don't watch commercials in Olema
We don't buy the plastic crap they sell
We still wear our hair long like folks used to
And we bathe often, therefore we don't smell

Well I'm proud to be a hippie from Olema
Where we're friendly to the squares and all the sttraights
We still take in strangers if they're ragged
We can't think of anyone to hate

We don't throw our beer cans on the highway
We don't slide a man because he's black
We don't spill our oil out in the ocean
'Cause we love birds and fish too much for that

And I'm proud to be a hippie from Olema
Where we're friendly to the squares and all the straights
We still take in strangers if they're Haggard
In Olema, California, Planet Earth

Kinky Friedman's "Asshole from El Paso"

(chinga chavin, kenny snakebite jacobs)

We don't have no love ins in el paso
We don't go to porno picture shows
We don't swap our wives with our neighbors
And we keep our kids away from mexico.

And I'm proud to be an asshole from el paso
A place where sweet young virgins are deflowered.
You walk down the street knee-deep in tacos
Ta-ta-ta-tacos
And the wetbacks still get twenty cents an hour.

We don't wipe our asses on old glory,
God and lone star beer are things we trust.
We keep our women virgins till they're married
So hosin' sheep is good enough for us.

And I'm proud to be an asshole from el paso
A place where sweet young virgins are deflowered.
You walk down the street knee-deep in tacos
Ta-ta-ta-tacos
And the wetbacks still get twenty cents an hour.

I'm proud to be an asshole from el paso
A place where sweet young virgins are deflowered.
You walk down that street knee-deep in tacos
Ta-ta-ta-tacos
And the wetbacks still get twenty cents an hour

Thanks for posting the lyrics (I can't watch videos on this computer)

I love his "Ballad of Charles Whitman"

(Some Kinky Friedman quotes)

"How can you look at the Texas Legislature and still believe in intelligent design?"

"Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder"

"If Willie Nelson had been Rosa Parks, there never would have been a civil rights movement in this country, because he refuses to leave the back of the bus."

I was totin' my pack along the dusty Winnemucca road
When along came a semi with a high and canvas covered load
"If you're going to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride"
So I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside

He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand
And I said, "Listen, bud I've traveled every road in this here land"

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
I've crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

Been to Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota, Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow
Sarasota, Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma, Tampa, Panama
Mattawa, La Paloma, Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo, Tocopilla
Barranquilla, and Padilla, I'm a killer

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
I've crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana, Washington
Houston, Kingston, Texarkana, Monterey, Ferriday
Santa Fe, Tallapoosa, Glen Rock, Black rock, Little Rock
Okaloosa, Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee Spirit Lake
Grand Lake, Devil's Lake, Crater Lake, for pete's sake

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
I've crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, Ombabika, Shefferville
Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica, Pittsfield, Springfield,Bakersfield
Shreveport, Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond Du Lac, Davenport, Idaho
Jellicoe, Argentina, Diamontina, Pasadena, Catalina, see what I mean, sir

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
I've crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere

Pittsburgh, Parkersburg, Gravellburg, Colorado, Ellensburg, Rexburg
Vicksburg, El Dorado, Larrimore, Atmore, Haverstraw Chattanooga
Chaska, Nebraska, Alaska, Opelika, Baraboo, Waterloo, Kalamazoo
Kansas City, Sioux City, Cedar City, Dodge City, what a pity!

I've been everywhere, man
I've been everywhere, man
I've crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breathed the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I know some place you haven't been
I've been everywhere

Mar 2016

It was written by an Australian country singer, Geoff Mack, in 1959.

The song (as originally written) listed Australian towns.

"Geoff Mack's music publisher offered the song to Canadian-born country musician Hank Snow
in 1962.
Snow thought the song had potential for the Canadian & American markets, but only if the toponyms were adapted to North America.
Geoff Mack consequently re-wrote the song using a North American atlas supplied to him by the publisher." (Wikipedia)

I first heard the song (sung by Johnny Cash) on the soundtrack of Michael Moore's second film, "The Big One".....(It played as the closing credits were running)

Good pick!

"Okie from Muskogee"

Nice reference to (Merle) Haggard in your song

A year or two after the Muskogee song came out, I met a couple of guys from that city. So I had to ask them, "Is it true that you don't smoke that mari-ja-wanna in Muskogee?"

They had a good laugh about that.

Well, this is an odd one. Having grown up in Huntsville, I laugh at the notion of this city being the temptation that destroys a romance. NYC or Hollywood it ain't.

I was searching for an old song called "Bright Lights of Huntsville" but couldn't find it with Google. Maybe that's not the correct name.

Most songs with Huntsville in the title are about Huntsville, TX, particularly the prison there.
