Suggestions for Netflix.. I'm binging on "The Killing" 1st season and OMG it's so,

so good! Its taking so many turns and I'm on the last episode about to find out. God I love this!
I'm almost done so I need to know what is the next awesome show to sink my teeth into?
Here's what I've already seen and I'm definitely more in the mood for dramas
The Sopranos
Breaking Bad
Dexter
And I can't remember the others.

Thanks for any suggestions!

1. If you liked Breaking Bad try "Better Call Saul" which is a sort of prequel..

following the "Saul Goodman" character.

2. Just so you know, the actor who played the cool guy detective sidekick on the Killing

is in this season's House of Cards (season 4), which I would recommend as well.

While I was among those who never thought they would get into Sons of Anarchy, I found myself absolutely hooked. It has ended its series run so all seasons should be available.

3. Happy Valley, 30 Degrees in Feb

Hit & Miss was very interesting. I like the British TV shows.

I try to watch the network TV shows but they just pale in comparison to cable or foreign. I need more suggestions too.

Am trying to watch Life, a network police show with Damien Lewis. The writing of these types of shows isn't up to the quality I expect though. Also trying Lie To Me. Network TV sucks. But I like the actors.

4. Thank you guys so much. I'm completely up-to-date on Better Call Saul. I've heard great

things about Sons of Anarchy and House of Cards. I've never heard of Happy Valley or 30 degrees in Feb. Are those shows or documentaries (which I also love)? Intrepidity, are you by chance a writer or do you write on the side? I ask that because I am, and I completely agree that
most of the network shows are almost unwatchable. They aren't even in the same arena as the cable shows and it really is all about the writing. I have some friends who write and they are the same way regarding contrived plots, horrible dialogue, and ridiculous story lines.

10. Not a writer

Thanks for the compliment though

I have been trying to binge Sons of Anarchy, having managed to ignore it for all 7 seasons. I am stuck in season 5 ... had to take a break from the violence and repetitive story lines, but eventually I will finish it.

Happy Valley is a Brit TV show. Very well done, easy to binge and enjoy. 30 degrees is Swedish TV show, only 1 season so far, takes place in Thailand, about Swedes living there. Very good.

Why can't network shows do better? I wonder if it has to do with dumbing-down for the general audience or something? I just can't stand them.

I like just about everything on SHO and HBO. Some AMC, some FX (Justified! loved that one). Liking Vikings on History channel.

And Better Call Saul, one of my current favorites!

7. LOVED "The Killing" even though it was dark.

The chemistry between the two detectives was addicting. Make sure you watch every last second of the final episode!

18. "Wallander" with Kenneth Branagh is excellent.

It's based on Henning Mankell's crime novels set in Sweden. A couple of friends didn't like it because it's too dark, but I loved it. It's visually stunning with complex themes.

"Being Human" about a ghost, vampire and werewolf trying to survive in modern-day UK was dark and fun. Sharp writing by Toby Whithouse. Realistic interpersonal relationships, and excellent music ("And tonight, we shall be listening to Miss Kate Bush!".

"Happy Valley" with James Norton ("Grantchester" is in my queue, but right now I'm getting caught up on "Game of Thrones"... only half-way through Season 2!

22. I know I may sound like a stuck record with the "See the Original""...

But not only do you get to see a new bunch of actors, you generally see a new story and a new way of seeing things as well.

ps. Ian Richardson is one of the greats. I respect Kevin Spacey, but the House of Cards belongs to Ian Richardson, hands down.

24. I caught a couple of episodes on PBS way back when...

but I'll start from the beginning. I have watched Frank and Claire through Season 3, and will continue at some point. "Games of Thrones" will keep me going for a while, but I gotta take a break for the nice spring weather. Heat and humidity? Back into the AC with the remote control!

25. I am going to recommend a couple of websites

instantwatcher.com

allflicks.net

Both are much better at searching for content than Netflix's godawful engine. I can't stand searching for titles on the Netflix site or via my streaming-boxed teevee. I go to either of those two sites, find what I like, click the link to my Netflix account and add to my list. That way, when I crank up my teevee, I can find what I want from 'MyList' in a few clicks.

ADD: I do have a recommendation - "River" A British Detective series. Dark, a little bit supernatural but, ultimately, a study of a man suffering through overwhelming grief. I knew Stellan Skarsgård was a good actor but after watching this series I came to realize he is a great actor.

It's a dramatic treatment of Pablo Escobar's drug empire in Colombia, and the efforts of U.S. drug enforcement personnel to bring it down. Really well done.

32. If you don't mind subtitles I recommend Rita. Also Bloodline!

Rita is an edgy Danish dramady about a beautiful but cranky schoolteacher. It was an interesting take on how their social systems are so much different than ours.

Bloodline was a slow burn thriller that takes place in the FL Keys.

I've watched most of the shows mentioned upthread all are good recommendations. Right now my spouse and I are binging on The Walking Dead. And I'm taking a break from my usual dark and edgy preferences to binge on The Gilmore Girls which is like giving up filet mignon for cotton candy.

Something else that helps to make these shows stellar are the supporting cast members....the acting, dialogue, and chemistry. Another really good show that got very little hype and only two seasons was called Going On. So good! I'm jazzed that I have so many recommendations!

But I think it is on Hulu, if you have that, too. Excellent storyline, and fantastic acting. Billy Bob Thornton plays a truly glorious villain, but all the other actors are fantastic, too.

37. Making a Murderer is WHY I got Netflix! I was visiting some friends for an evening and we

watched 5 episodes before we had to go to bed and I had to leave early the next morning. So there I was, stuck in the middle and having to censor myself from comments, stories, etc. about the show! Well, a couple of weeks later I got Netflix and finished the series. Wow!. I wish some of my friends in my area watched it so we could discuss. I have questions and would love some feedback. I bet a lot of folks got Netflix because of Making a Murderer. With Netflix I'm in Heaven.!
