Mother's Day A Happy Mother's Day to all the Mom's out there!Lemonade Day was founded in Houston, Texas by Lisa and Michael Holthouse in 2007. The aim of Lemonade Day is to teach children about starting and running their own business and to encourage them to try it for themselves. Lisa Holthouse was inspired to set up Lemonade Day by an incident from her childhood. She had wanted to buy a turtle as a pet and when her dad refused to pay for it, Lisa set up a lemonade stand outside her house to raise the money to buy the turtle herself. Lemonade Day aims to help children to do the same and registered children are given all the information they need to set up their own lemonade stand. 250,000 children took part in Lemonade Day across the US and Canada in 2013. Participation in Lemonade Day is completely free and information packs are sent to all children who register. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/lemonade-day/
Iris Day Lets sit back and smell the Irises, my friends, because they are, at least in some respects, head and shoulder over that dusty, old, bygone, the rose! The fresh, sumptuous lustre of their dewy, iridescent blossoms on a spring day, the perky, shivery, curious stem scouting the air and the mesmerising blush of rainbow colours make it a sight for anyones sore eyes. The name comes from the Greek word for rainbow and most mythology adepts will tell you Iris was the messenger of the gods, the link between sea and sky, the rainbow glider, if you will. Doesnt that just inspire you to find a bunch of Irises for your girlfriend, mother, daughter and sister right now? It should, because on Iris Day, all is forgiven if you bring a bunch of these to your special someone; so if youve been naughty, nows the time to be nice. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/iris-day/
No Socks Day celebrating No Socks Day is pretty simple. You simply head out into the world with your feet unbound, unfettered, unimprisoned by the impertinence of cloth. Wear them in boots if you like, or set them truly free to walk upon the ground without anything betwixt them and the good earth. Fly across the sand in flip-flops or sandals, or just enjoy the plush feel of the carpet on your feet as you walk through your home. No Socks Day truly is a day of liberation for feet everywhere! https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/no-socks-day/

(38,958 posts)Ours (they were my Mom's and look just like those in the photo) have already bloomed this year, as have most of the tulips.
A Happy Mother's Day!

(206,291 posts)Though I have a soft spot for tulips, too. I was born in Albany (NY) and they have a yearly tulip festival (a salute to the Dutch settlers). My mother and my aunt used to take us as little kids to see Washington Park full of gorgeous flowers.

(38,958 posts)I have a few from years back from the Missouri Botanical Garden and of my garden when the tulips were in bloom, but I have trouble getting photos to post. Thanks for sharing this wonderful photo.

(206,291 posts)And it's going on now since the festival takes place Mother's Day weekend. Fortunately, it's been a couple of weeks since we had snow...
If you have photos on your computer, you can upload them to Photobucket. I learned to do that here on DU. Sometimes you have to edit them for size, then just post the Direct link. If I can figure it out, it's got to be pretty easy...
