however if that website changes then your link could no longer be valid. It could disappear (best case) or change to soemthing else (has happened here in fact).

To have better control of whether or not the image stays as is you should have it hosted by an image hosting site. I use www.tinypic.com but there are many others. (imageshack, photbucket, etc...)

First make sure you are looking at the image by itself (not embedded in an html webpage). Usually easiest to right click and view image in new tab or window. MOST of the time that will show you the actual url to the image and it should always end in the filename of the image - picture.jpg or .bmp or .gif or .png or one of the many other picture file types. If the link ends in .html you can't use it like that. You have to get to the image.

once you have the real url to the image copy it.
go to tinypic.com and select upload photo and choose the "url" option. (When you select the URL radio button the "choose file" button will change to a URL entry box)

you can also choose to resize the image here if it's really big.

paste the url into the box and hit "upload now"

about 80% of the time they will force you to solve a captcha to prove you are a real person (I think you can get rid of that by signing up for an account but i never bother with that. I just do the captcha)

after that you will be presented with a page showing several URLs for different ways to display your image. Just copy the direct link for layouts url and paste it directly into your post and there ya go.

There are other ways to do it - if you have an image already saved to your computer you can choose that file by pressing the "choose file" button instead of doing URL. Just hit that and navigate to wherever you have the image saved and upload it.

It makes sense to me because i do it often for many boards i'm on. If I've explained something poorly please ask and I will clarify better. I know everybody doesn't play with this stuff all day like me .
