How many times have we been here? Maybe many, many times. Article says, given what little we know of quantum mechanics, the universe has been expanding (as it is now), and then will reach some point where it contracts and begin the entire cycle over again. Seems as if a long time ago when I was into Eastern philosophy there was a train of belief in this eternal cycle.
"... team of researchers from Egypt created a model that stated that the Universe has no beginning or end. Instead, using quantum mechanics and Einstein's theory of general relativity, they suggested that the Universe has simply been going forever"
Lord, seems to me that if this is true, all this fuss and noise we're making isn't worth a shit.

(4,858 posts)...we will never be able to actually comprehend all this. But we are here, and maybe we can figure out a little of the universe(s) around us. That is not an ignoble quest, whether or not existence is finite or infinite.

(16,296 posts)Started my trip into rabbit hole philosophy with Plato and his shadows, went to Descartes as I become more arrogant of my worth, stuck for awhile in Existentialism in my college days and then had to go out and get a job, wife and kids and now only have the cat to ponder with - and he won't tell me anything the close-lipped bastard. And for me, I guess that is now my anthropic period.
