(37,748 posts)Me too! I'm really digging the cast and how they've adapted so well to the roles. Movie starts out in a quiet first gear, ramps up quickly to fourth gear in the middle of act I, and never slowed down afterwards.

(100,068 posts)And that use of the Beastie Boys at the end was amazing. I love how Spock referred to it as "classical music".
But seeing that picture of the original cast with Leonard Nimoy...

(46,703 posts)In this one they successfully picked up the baton from the previous star trek parallel world. The main characters have settled into the familiar roles.
The one unknown is Chekov. Since the actor died in a auto crash, what comes next? It was a sad coincidence when the doctor and James kirk pulled a scotch bottle from Chekov's locker and filled a third glass to toast to. At first, I thought it was a quick scene that they had spliced in for Anton Yelchin.
You have to stay to the final credit to find the tribute to both Spock and Anton.

(63,208 posts)Just weeks ago I read right here in this forum that it would certainly be terrible, based on the trailer.
"It isn't Star Trek," they said.
"It's only the Star Trek name," they said.
Surely the kneejerk naysayers can't be wrong?!?

(2,900 posts)element and two Checkov's guns, both of which were preposterous. These two CGs were really out of place for an otherwise very good movie. The acting was really good.
