I slammed the door on someone

You don’t knock on my door during the ‘Final Jeopardy question’!
Foolishly, I answered a knock on my door as I was also trying to listen to the ‘Final Jeopardy question’.

A middle aged couple stood there, smiling at me. The man had a pen and notebook in his hands.
They just stood there, looking at me, so I asked “Yes?”

The man said “Good evening sir. May we ask you a few questions?”

Remembering it’s the ‘political season, I asked “Who is this for?”

The man, still smiling, said “This is for us and for you.”

I asked “Who are you working for?”

The man, still smiling, said “We’re working for everyone.”

SLAM!
Don’t waste my time.

(I’m usually in a better mood)

Sounds like it could be the 'Have you heard the Good Word?' folks. It could be political, but campaign canvassers usually have better training than to be so evasive. When I canvassed, I stated upfront who I was with. You don't win votes by being annoyingly evasive about that.

When the religious salesmen knock on his door, greets them politely, invites them to come in and sit down and tries to convert them to Anarcho-Syndicalism. He says he may have converted a few.

I just ask them if their souls are right with Elvis. They run away.

somewhere that people could actually walk up to my door was...1989. Unlike Frost, I love walls because I crave privacy. If I didn't invite you, if I don't know you're coming by, don't bother.

I think you need this:

with a rather unique method of dealing with such folks.

If the people on the other side of the peephole were unknown to her, she'd open the door with a crystal ball in one hand and a black unlit candle in the other; then she'd just stare at them. They always left quickly...
