Warning: Amazon

I was checking the transactions on my credit card and noticed that I had been charged for an Amazon Prime membership that I had not requested. I've never had a membership, so it wasn't an issue of a recurrent billing. However, they did have an old credit card of mine that has been inactive for a couple of months. Still, someone at Amazon was able to put through the charge. I have removed my old credit card from my Amazon account so this won't happen again and I suggest everyone do likewise.

I have a feeling that this has happened to a bunch of people, because when I called their customer service line, the first option was "Do you have a question about your Amazon Prime membership or what to cancel?". Actually, they gave me an immediate refund, no questions asked.

That's when you signed up for Amazon Prime. It's a nice scam, charging a $99 annual fee for "free shipping".

Just for free shipping on an order that had unexpectedly high shipping charges added. Usually everything is free shipping anyway.

And when I decided to cancel before I forget, they said my trial will automatically expire on the expiration date. If I had unlimited internet it might be worth it for the free music streaming, if it was all I used for streaming music.

Now I know to watch out anyway.
