Ralston was the best hot cereal ever and I have not seen it for years.

Now I am a huge fan of oatmeal, either the 10 minute old fashioned kind or steel cut oats (which I cook in the microwave with cut up apple no sugar added)

I also like cream of wheat, cream of rice and hot grapenuts but I do not like grits as a breakfast food. I prefer them as a cheesy buttery calorie laden casserole.

My preferred cold cereals: Life (still) and all the varieties of Chex, plus shredded wheat.

But it has to be prepared properly first. That is, you put the cereal in then cover in milk and then let it sit for about a minute or two, which is difficult to do as a sugar addicted kid, to get it to that perfect texture. Not soggy but soft, sticky, and still a little crunchy.

On Saturday mornings I could sit in front of the t.v. watching cartoons and eat a whole boxful, one fistful at a time right out of the box, never even take the milk out of the fridge, haha.

I liked Cocoa Krispies, too. Now, I eat oatmeal, with a little bit of butter & pepper & cream.

"Crispy crunchy graham cereal, family breakfast tree-ee-eat..."

I was able to sing along, lo these many years later.

bacon fat or what?

I just went to the store & got buttermilk, I am in the mood for cornbread, sans sugar, made with bacon grease in cast iron skillet.

I will not squish it in my buttermilk, my taste has matured, somewhat.

Now I've also (sometimes) gussied it up with canned creamed corn, minced jalapeno, and cheddar.
I know, I'm ashamed of myself.

I had to stop eating Grape Nuts when Post Cereals was owned by Phillip Morris, since my father died from Lung Cancer from smoking Phillip Morris cigarettes.

I understand that Post has been spun off from Phillip Morris, so I recently started eating it again, although there are some generic knock offs that are quite good.

B'ham, AL in the 40s.
We always had a BIG Sunday 'dinner'.
Sunday night supper was light, "breakfast food'.
That's what we called cereal back then.
I remember Rice Krispies and Quaker Puffed Rice "SHOT FROM GUNS!"
With milk and LOTS of sugar.
And drinking the sugar laden milk from the bowl after I'd finished the cereal.

Never touched it again.

I also really liked captain crunch and sugar snaps (the one with the frog on the box).

In college, I would just eat handfuls of honey Oh's or cinnamon nut crunch.

Now, nothing. I am on a low salt, low sugar, low carb, low everything diet. Lol

I still eat the stuff every now and then, but not as often as I did when I was younger. Now, as an adult, I prefer plain corn flakes, with some sugar added to the milk.
