How long does it take for you to displace a sleeping dog?

Here's the scenario: Dog falls asleep on your lap. It's no inconvenience to you because you're busy reading a book, or on the internet, or watching t.v. But, when that task is completed, you try to move onto the next thing except that your dog is so peacefully asleep that you are reluctant to disturb him or her. How long does it take for you to come to your senses?

I can hold my position until one of us feels the call of nature.

I am such a dedicateted owner that I have been able to lull myself to sleep to take my mind off my own bodily urges. My pooch comes first, always.

I can wait until the outside world comes calling. i.e. phone rings or someone at the door.

If the remote control is within reach, what's the problem?

Who's the Alpha? I have people to see and places to go. Life is too short to be a canine cushion.

and she's never tried. She will snuggle up next to me and put her head on me though. I don't displace her until I need to get up.

sometimes I've been pinned and can't move. Other times I just don't want to wake them up. I have been known to fall asleep waiting for the dog to wake up. Occasionally I've wondered if my snoring woke them up.

I haven't broken the news and told her that she is too big to sit in my lap, so our visitors usually get a big surprise.

He weighs 175.
He can back up to the couch and just sit.
Which he does.
He can also stand flatfooted and eat off the kitchen counter.
Which he does.
His favorite treat is a pound of butter purloined from said kitchen counter.
Carton, wrappers, and all.
His name is Dizzy.
Are you surprised?

After, we both go back to bed or whatever else we were doing.

I keep doggie beds in various parts of the house, which the humans use as pillows since the dogs take over the beds, chairs, and couches.

I'm OK with this arrangement.

However there was one notable exception. I was laying on the couch just after knee surgery, lamenting the doctor giving me percoset which doesn't help me with pain. My mom's lap dog (also known as a 100 lb malamute) decides he wants to cheer me up by cuddling. Unfortunately that meant landing on top of me. I threw him off and his feelings were so hurt, I ended up apologizing to the dog.
