(60,011 posts)I assume you have checked the bite mark to rule out any dangerous spiders?

(72,300 posts)The worst local spider is a Brown Recluse. My bite doesn't look like a recluse bite.
On Tuesday the area swollen by the bite was about the size of the head of a tack and hard. Today the swelling is starting to go down but the redness hasn't gotten any better or worse since yesterday.

(2,533 posts)Spider bites-especially the likes of the recluse (or trapdoor spider that bit me 6 years ago).
They can take months to heal and necropsy is a real issue. look for dead tissue at the fang marks.
Mine took about 3 months to "heal" and still is very visibly scarred in the area. Since I had no health care at the time I used hydrogen peroxide-in a ring I made up-pressed against the skin & pour the peroxide in letting it bubble as long as you can manage.
Got a stern lecture from my Dr after Obamacare let me get covered. Said I could have had a very bad infection as a result.
Hope it gets better & is not a recluse bite.

(72,300 posts)As it is ... the peroxide only bubbled up slightly just one time (the first time I soaked the bite marks).

(28,394 posts)Can you go to an urgi-med? You should probably not wait until Monday, and definitely do not lance it yourself.
Take care of yourself, ITW!!!

(72,300 posts)I only want my primary care doctor.
I've been seeing him over 16 years.

(24,358 posts)Seriously, take extra good care of it, AND of yourself, my friend! I doubt little Spidey has brushed his teeth recently, let alone gargled, so infection is a strong possibility even if venom is not.
Keep us posted! And give yourself a few of these!

(31,712 posts)just to make sure it wasn't a brown recluse bite. The red and hard area was the size of a quarter. I could also see the fang marks.
I had been out cleaning up the screened porch and whatever did it must have gotten me then. It did take several days for the swelling to go down.

(72,300 posts)Yup, I could see the fang marks. The skin is starting to fall off around the bite location. Oh! And the bite location is a problem: if I sit up the bite, on the top part of my thigh, receives pressure from my hip. So the poison spread across 3 inches. I have a headache, slightly nauseous. Obviously, I am allergic to spider bites

(20,588 posts)If you can't get an appointment today, go to the ER. This is not negotiable. You must have it looked at today. Until you get there, take a pen and draw a border around the edge of the affected area and write the time. When you get to the doctor, they will be able to tell if it's still speading and how fast. The bite has most likely become infected with staph, possibly MRSA. Do not mess around with this. TODAY!!!

(72,300 posts)It was a sunny day. About 70 degrees. Perfect weather for window washing and putting things away before winter. I guess the spider was looking for a safe winter home and I disturbed her.
Last night's cold snap plus spider killer spread all around the foundation should put a dent in the spider population.
