(10,010 posts)He had a beautiful coat just like that cat except he had a lighter color on his belly and he had beautiful markings on his face.
He was a hell of a cat (infinite personality and he was a big boy!). He suddenly died on me when he was around 13. I was heartbroken and still am when I think about him.
My other cat who I lost about a year and a half ago and was my gray cats companion was a tuxedo like the other cat and she went blind toward the last years of her life, she lived to be 20. So to see these two just made me miss the hell out of my little friends. It was very bitter sweet to watch this video.

(34,189 posts)I had a cat very similar in color and coat to Smurf - I called him Smokey.
Smokey was a cool cat. He'd jump onto the backs of the horses, usually behind a saddle on a horse being ridden. He liked watching TV and loved to ride in cars. One day he disappeared - we think he got into one of our clients' cars and rode off with them. Unlike most cats, he'd ride quietly and watch the scenery go by, then would jump out quickly when the door was opened.
Since that was long before microchips, we did what we could to look for him - put in a missing cat report at the animal shelter and checked regularly everywhere we could. Our clients watched for him in their neighborhoods but never saw him. He was such a smart and sweet cat I'm sure he would have found a new home where ever he ended up but I missed him so much!

(34,189 posts)Here's the backstory - warning some graphic pictures of his injuries:

No one can say for certain how the first weeks of Smurf's life played out, but his broken body and frightened eyes hint at abuses unimaginable.
His spirit, however, remains intact.
The sweet but scared kitten, thought to be less than 2 months old, was dropped off at a San Jose animal shelter in California this week. While it was obvious that someone had dyed his fur a deep shade of purple, staff soon discovered his body was covered in deep bite marks and abrasions.
Rather than euthanizing Smurf, the shelter alerted the Nine Lives Foundation, a rescue center for injured and abused cats run by veterinarian Monica Rudiger.

I think whoever named him Smurf must be color blind!
