What is your favorite song?

Donald Trump's is "My Way", according to Paul Anka. Does that surprise anyone?

So what is your absolute, unquestioned favorite song? What do you think it says about you?

Mine is "Good Vibrations", by the Beach Boys. I just love everything about it. I can't even express why. I only know that if anyone who knew me found out that's my favorite song, they would immediately say, "Yeah, that sounds like Dave Starsky".

As they say, two can play
But keep that song away from me
In my time too much love
Has made me sad for so long
I was lost, can't you see
Through the long lonely night

Heaven knows, I believe
Won't you take a chance with me
Sometimes I get so blue
People say I'm just a fool
All the world, even you
Should learn to love the way I do

I was blind, can't you see
Through the long lonely night
Heaven knows, I believe
Won't you take a chance with me

What it says about me is I straddle the line between fantasy and reality all the time. I am just now learning to accept things as they are, not how I wish them to be, and to find happiness and contentment alongside disappointments and frustration.
Also, I love the subtle layering of instruments and the absolute warmth and beauty of Bryan Ferry's voice.

But one of the songs that I keep coming back to is this one...

I wonder if most of the responses in this thread go back to your teenaged years, or maybe your early 20s. Those are such influential times of our lives and it seems like the music we grew up with tends to have another dimension, a sentimental quality.

I could only remember one line. Changeling. Will changeling for you. Drove me crazy until I got home to listen to it again. It's from '80 I think. Not sure what made me think of it. I don't think I've listened to it for a couple decades.

I'm not a big fan of Simple Minds overall. I didn't know of Changeling and, having given it a listen, I don't think I'll be playing it regularly.

I just happen to LOVE Alive and Kicking and, of course, Don't You Forget About Me, which happens to be on the soundtrack to a great movie in The Breakfast Club.

The one that I always come back to:

It's my hymn, for some secular, non-theist value of hymn. My regular reminder that giving up is not an option, that storms always end, that this too shall pass.

... THIS is my favourite song. And here is but one lovely version of it:

What do I think it says about me? I think it says I am probably an old soul, still not quite adjusted to life as it is - still spiritually bound to life as it was once. And still hopelessly in love.
