(10,112 posts)Never had any birds nest in a birdhouse I have had up in various spots through the years, but now have a nest in a fake lantern thing hanging from the corner of my roof on my deck, I'm pretty excited about it.

(81,565 posts)Congrats! You're gonna love being a "foster parent"! Their behavior is SO fascinating to watch! Both parents and hatchlings. For us, it's about two-and-a-half weeks of sheer joy. That's about how long it takes between the time you discover they've hatched and when they're mature (and well-feathered) enough to take their maiden flight.
Warning, though: when they're old enough to leave the nest, you might feel a little glum that day.
