1. Read the book when it came out, saw the movie, so I'll be watching it.

Just waiting for more episodes to be available, rather than wait a week for each new one.

My idea of binge watching a series is to watch one episode a day until I've watched them all. Don't own a regular TV here so I watch stuff online, which means I'm years behind on current shows, but do get to watch pretty much everything I want to.

4. I know. And I gather the next 7 will be released once a week

for the next seven weeks. Which means I'll start with the first one in about six weeks

I do like the way they usually release all episodes of a series at once.

I binged the first three episodes.

One of my mentors introduced me to Margaret Atwood's book in the late '80s. I've been waiting for Hulu's adaptation for months. It was worth the wait.

5. Is it their intention to stick reasonably closely to the book?

Or are they going to "extend" it with material the author had never envisaged?

and I am speaking as someone who has read it several times a year for 30+ years, so I'm quite familiar with the subject matter.

Margaret Atwood is working with the writers and producers of the show, so she is on board with the (well done, IMHO) modifications and updates.

Atwood appears in an episode at the Red Center as an Aunt, who slaps Offred for not promptly victim-blaming Janine.

Watch it and let us know what you think.

Beautiful photography, fair story line, passing dialogue but...
somewhere I got the idea the lead was living in a normal society when her kid was born and now the kid is eight years old. Despite the fact of President Republican, don't think a culture could be so significantly altered in eight years.
Also kinda slow.

8. Watched the first 3 episodes last night. I think it's very good and

very frightening. Someone commented that they didn't think things could go south in 8 years. Of course they can. Just think of how different life in Syria is now compared to 2009. I have travel brochures for Syria and actually thought of going there and to Jordan in one trip.

I think using flashbacks to explain how it came about is effective.

The flashbacks frightened me the most. It made it seem very real how things could go from the way they are now to the eventual fate of the handmaids. Dramatic, but not implausible.

and I'm not very flappable. My greatest fear is that Mullah Pence, in between furiously fapping to it, is formulating strategies.

Things That Give Mullah Pence Wood:
1. "Bible Court"
2. Torture women
3. Torture gays
4. Execute gays
5. Sexual mutilation of gays
6. Police state massacre of protesters defending women's rights
