Ok maybe I've got your attention now!
My wife and I are trying to cut our cable bill down to size. We are with Comcast on the xfinity platform in southeast Michigan. I added the location cuz I've heard it changes things sometimes.
Well...
We are almost ready to ditch the entire cable experience, but seemingly unable to go cold turkey. We are on the lowest package that we can be on. The next way to cut is to use our own equipment.
Although we have a 4K UHD tv we are willing to give up dvr-ing shows cuz we can get most on Netflix or Hulu those will be in HD no prob.
But we cannot figure out what cable box we would have to buy to be compatible with Comcast in our area. You are allowed to have your own box and not rent it from Comcast, we do this with our modem.
I now have a Pace XG 1v1 which is the maker of Comcast's box designated model number PXO13ANM.
i don't need all the features that box has, HD, DVR, but would like one that would be compatible with our incoming signal. I hope I'm making a little sense, I get lost even tapping this out.
We've looked online but get really confused with all the various designations.
Anyone have similar experiences? Can anyone help even a little?
I'll ask at Comcast when we go turn in our equipment but would love to be armed with a little knowledge before we do.

(13,110 posts)It streams through the internet.
The box cost from $40.00 to $80.00.
I have no cable or satellite dish.
Just KODI.
There are no monthly fees, just the up front cost of the box.
It has every TV show or movie you can think of !!!
I get Netflix, HBO, Showtime etc.
You can watch movies that are currently in the theaters.
I have had it since January of this year.
I love it.

(23,765 posts)Similar to the Amazon and Roku stick, which I have you need to have an account with the provider. I subscribe to Amazon and Netflix. Also get some network shows and news for free. My understanding that the apps that allow you to circumvent subscription fees to view content for free like HBO and movies still in theaters, is illegal.
Don't know if there is any crackdown in US but Britain seems to be working hard to eliminate illegal streaming.

My subscriptions to Netflix and Amazon Prime cost me about $20 per month and all the other free apps gives me plenty of viewing options.

(9,785 posts)Wowsers, may be what we are looking for. We don't have computers anymore, well we do but they are in our "museum of kinda working tech". Mine is a 12-15 yo Mac G5 with I will proudly add the Motorala chip.
But they do have a stand alone box for $150. That would suit us just fine. As noted in op we have Netflix and Hulu plus my sweetie is an Amazon prime member forgot that one before.
Little more investigation and I do believe were in!
Thanks SamKnaus.

(34,195 posts)Due to increasing health problems and medical copays I cut the cable and kept the internet.
It was the cheapest cable package and "only" $80 a month, but it's $80 I can now use on my medical bills.
I use an over the air antennae, 'The Leaf', bought from Walmart.

(9,785 posts)Tried one and it only picked up one station. I think I have too much interference. Cannot put on the roof, have no attic to get higher. I live in a mobile home. I think there are too many metal homes in the way.

(34,195 posts)I have it on my living room wall here in Albuquerque, using duct tape, of course.
My ex in San Diego has hers on her balcony.

I pay $39.99/month for that. I have a flat panel (indoor) tv antenna that picks up around 25 channels. This include all the local network affiliates from Portland, 3 Pbs Stations + 1 PBS radio staion, COZI, Laff,MeTV, Comet (scifi), getTV, Decades Channel + other chann5el. These are free over the air channels . The network channels are hi-def.
The i pay for a $20/month SlingTV package that came with a free Roku box. SlingTV has several packages. You can also rent movies through Sling and the Roku bix has a ton of free shows and movies as well as pay for content you can buy.
