My husband and I were sitting in the garage, taking a break from cleaning, when we saw the dog sniffing about her old house. She saw us too.

She promptly ran inside our garage, choosing my lap to rest her head. I was a wee bit afraid at first. Huge dog. Almost my height on all fours and 100 plus pounds easily.

She whimpered and licked my hands and face repeatedly. I loved on her and whispered soothing words - all the while thinking please don't eat my face. But her need was greater than my worries, so I kept on loving on her.

We got her some food and water and found her a forever home.

People really piss me off at times.

The dog in the photo is adorable.

We have 4 cats that have been abandoned. They are not feral and very people friendly. A week ago Sunday my son found a 10 week old pup in a hole in our front fence line. The dog is now living on our rear deck. He has been dewormed and defleaed with his 1st puppy shot. The afternoon that we rescued him it poured down rain. I think he might have drown in his den. So soon I will be building a fence for Rocky.

Nearly every dog my family ever owned was abandoned. The few that weren't were given to us by families who could no longer keep them. Only one of the dogs we ever owned was purchased by a friend of the family as a gift for my older sister.

My first dog was a little red one that looked so much like a red fox that he was named Foxy by the five year old me. Dad found him wandering in the woods, starving because he didn't know how to hunt. He was constant companion for a few years until he was bitten by a water moccasin and died.

My little sister's first dog was a Beagle who was left at a service station by some tourists. Dad saw the dog begging for food from the mechanics and when he heard the dog's story, Barney came home with Dad. Barney lived with us for well over a decade and died of natural causes. We never knew how old he was but his face had turned completely white by the time he died.

For this one dog, which we trapped in a cat trap cause it's was running wild in a field across the street of our home. He was way to small and I thought a bird would grab him. Rocky ended up having heart congestive failure, and he stay on multi drugs a day for years.

He's was a cranky good boy, but we gave him another 6 years and some family trips. Enjoy your new little friend. Get them check when able, cause mean people suck.

We've got to fatten her up with puppy food and she should be good as new. They gave us a dewormer but her blood work came back clear.

especially if she's well socialized. Lots of tragic stories out there can account for her abandonment.

Yes, she should have gone to the AHA. People in crisis don't always think that clearly.

I'm just glad she found you.

The pupster and you. Happy thoughts for many years together.

I saw a similar story on TV recently, where a father and son were riding down a country road on their motorcycles. They saw a crate in a field, and stopped to investigate. They found a small dog that had obviously been there a few days with no water or food. They came back with a truck, and the dog had a new caring home with them. Lucky.

Some people should never have pets or children.

The owner(s) did at least leave them with a bag of food, but by the time they were rescued, they were drinking out of the toilet. They still often try to hop up there, but that's less common now.

They did get very nervous when I packed everything up to install new flooring over Christmas.

The latest reason seems to be people want to go on a long vacation and can't bring the dog so they drop him off at a shelter. I have seen that story more than once.

Thankfully there are people like you and your wife and your 6 year old daughter out there!

I'm sure it broke the heart of the person. I've not been there but close enough. And with all the brutality & greed-people have to make horrible choices. That should never have to be made.

I'm glad the sweetie has a new home.

My wife found a older canary in a cage with a note when she got out of work at the pet store.....
Sorry if the note is skewed the photo service is aaaakward. But his name is Buddy-he is a corn bread eating machine & just started singing a fw days ago. He had a obviously loving home & I cried many times after reading the note.

He's doing very well & my dear departed southern Mama taught me how to do cornbread so he's in good hands.

but if I had to give up a pet, I'd take it to a shelter or at least a vet and not ditch it on the side of a road near heavy traffic and shops.

This little girl is so underweight that I get that maybe the owner couldn't afford food (not that a 3.5 lb chihuahua eats that much), but to just ditch it was harsh.

She's such a sweetie and has napped in my lap this afternoon for a couple of hours.

Does she have a name yet? You are a good person to rescue such a tiny pup.

We rescued a little dog back in December 2016. Her name is Sweet Pea! My little boy loves her so much. We all do.

His father had died and the mother couldn't support the family so she sold all of her kids. My great grandfather had to live in the barn as he wasn't allowed in the home of the family who bought him. He later immigrated to the US where he became a successful business man and paid for all of his sibling to immigrate here too.

People do desperate things when times are desperate.
