If aliens were looking for a reason to blow up the planet, that phrase would be all the reason they need.

(13,218 posts)Never heard of it. Sounds foreign.

(63,203 posts)It's a trendy corporate buzz-phrase, and whatever its etymology, I find it nauseatingly contrived and artificial.

(13,869 posts)First time I heard that phrase I thought it was dumb; didn't know that it would be a common phrase.

(51,308 posts)I'm sick of "cray" and "welp".
Somehow people think those words make them sound cool I guess.

(63,203 posts)I don't mind words that arise through organic processes, since that's how language works, but something in the focus-grouped tone of corporate trend-speak makes me feel all stabby.

(28,254 posts)Is it a clunky-assed way of saying "What I'm asking is...."? I'm with you: planetary destruction is appropriate retribution.

(12,153 posts)Does it mean "my question for you/request of you (is...)" ?
I'd never heard of it before.
Orrex
(63,203 posts)I could even see it as "my task for you."
But this new formulation--which I've heard from clients nationwide, sadly--is an abomination.
SCantiGOP
(13,869 posts)how much I hated the past tense of 'task,' as in "I was tasked with proofing the report." It's also a very difficult word to pronounce in a hurry, it almost ends up as three syllables.

(6,261 posts)I have a particular loathing for "Hating on" myself. I know English is descriptive not proscriptive but that's no excuse for illogical constructions like "I could care less" and "head over heels". English is probably the richest language on earth, and its abuse causes me no end of irritations.
A good round of mandatory floggings might bring about changes. I would support any candidate running on such a platform.
