Driving into Deadwood, South Dakota down Main Street, the aura of frontier outlaw wildness is impossible to ignore. This is the area of the Black Hills where the last great American gold rush of the 19th century occurred.

visit and the place sucked. Awful service, bad food and the bar taps were all shut down. The bartender told us that management had not been paying the bills. I heard that the place closed a year or so ago.

(8,632 posts)I don't recall seeing Jake's there, so you're probably right. We didn't have dinner in Deadwood though, just spent the afternoon there on our way to a motel in Rapid City, South Dakota. We drove through a part of Sturgis too, but since they weren't having their motorcycle convention yet, we didn't film much.

(12,132 posts)that makes perfect sense if you watch as much TV as I do.
Neat video - now I wanna go there. And I am happy to hear a rumor that HBO might bring the show back.

(8,632 posts)Were you a big fan of the HBO show? I've never seen it, but I heard it was really good!

(12,132 posts)not coincidentally, both starring Timothy Olyphant. I think I might have a man-crush on him. My wife is OK with that if it gets him into our house.
Which actually doesn't seem fair - I have full on love for Helen Mirren but my wife won't let her anywhere near our house.

(8,632 posts)It's kind of hard to meet in the middle on those issues. I'm trying to think if my wife has had a woman-crush on anyone. I used to have a man-crush on Vince Vaughn back when he did Swingers (that evaporated when he started doing stuff like Fred Claus). Unfortunately my wife (who was then my girlfriend) didn't have a woman-crush on Heather Graham. Those things just don't work that way!

(8,632 posts)We were on a family vacation driving through. I don't believe there were any casinos then. I seem to recall some old place there that had an old time theater arcade zoetrope showing Old Frontier photos. Does that sound familiar? I just remember loving the vibe there. I'm so glad to revisit Deadwood!
