Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsDamn! Amazon just mailed me to tell me the eclipse glasses I ordered are no good.
It isn't the first time I've ordered suspected counterfeit items from Amazon either. There's a pair of LG headsets which gave up the ghost after just a few months, and the $13 shampoo I ordered feels awfully watery compared to the $50 "identical" one I get at the hairdressers.
I'll give Amazon credit for doing the right thing and warning me to not use them, but they really have to be more careful about their sources.

(17,276 posts)The way you can tell they are good is you look through them and the only thing you can see is the sun, or perhaps a bright reflection of the sun that will bounce off some cars or other objects.

(20,879 posts)It will be the downfall of this company.
I rarely buy anything from them as too many of the things I have bought were either the wrong item or something that is defective.
Just wait as they get into the food business. If they cannot handle handling two-bit junk, how will the food business and the many ordinances surrounding food be dealt with? They don't know yet but they will know.
In the end, their greed will take them down.

(60,010 posts)There are a whole lot of not nice people who open a store account, list tons of varied items, actually TOO varied, collect the money for a couple weeks, and disappear.
Amazon does refund with few questions, but I have gotten a lot more careful reading reviews, comments and if it is bad engrish or mis-spelled, vibes, etc, I pass.

(6,261 posts)Hello,
Were writing to provide you with important safety information about the eclipse products you purchased on Amazon (order #xxxxxxxx) for habibee 4-Pack Black Plastic Eclipse Glasses CE & ISO Certified 2017 Safe Solar Eclipses Viewing Shades Block Sun Ultraviolet UV Lights Goggles).
To protect your eyes when viewing the sun or an eclipse, NASA and the American Astronomical Society (AAS) advise you to use solar eclipse glasses or other solar filters from recommended manufacturers. Viewing the sun or an eclipse using any other glasses or filters could result in loss of vision or permanent blindness.
Amazon has not received confirmation from the supplier of your order that they sourced the item from a recommended manufacturer. We recommend that you DO NOT use this product to view the sun or the eclipse.
Amazon is applying a balance for the purchase price to Your Account (please allow 7-10 days for this to appear on Your Account). There is no need for you to return the product. You can view your available balance and activity here:

(26,117 posts)Being careful not to touch the LED light with the lenses so as not to scratch them, you hold them very close to the LED light. If you can see the light at all thru the lenses you should not use the glasses. Saw this demonstrated on a news segment this morning.

(26,025 posts)I agree that it's shameful for Amazon to allow unscrupulous vendors to hawk their substandard wares - especially when something as precious as vision is put at risk - but a modicum of caveat emptor is definitely in order.

(6,261 posts)They just turned out to be counterfeit.

(26,025 posts)it sounds like Amazon needs a good, old-fashioned class action suit or three to get them to clean shop - against the unscrupulous vendors too.

(29,322 posts)which actually works better than a brand new $59.99 one but they just t it in front of my door and I live in an apartment complex. Luckily I decided to check the mail to see if it came and saw it sitting there before too long but they gotta be careful about this to the door delivery.
