I swear on my daughter that this is true.

When I was growing up my mother was absolutely in love with Barry Manilow. My aunt was also absolutely in love with Manilow. I spent all of time as a kid with both. My mom was a stay at home mom until I started school and when I wasn't with her In was with my aunt. They played Barry Manilow on the record player all the time. If it wasn't Manilow then it was Streisand or the Carpenters. This was mid seventies to the early 80s when they were all still popular.

To this day I know the lyrics to every single one of their hits. I am not kidding. If I am in a supermarket or elevator and one of those songs starts playing, I will subconsciously start singing along. I don't even realize I am doing it half of the time.

This provides endless amusement to my friends and family. When I was in college and I was dating my first wife she asked me what the hell I was doing one day when we were in the car and I was just singing along to Weekend in New England. I didn't own any tapes are records of these bands but the music was just stuck in my brain.

Having studied piano and voice in college I grew to appreciate their talent but I don't go out of my way to listen to that music. Still, I am in my 40s now and I can still do it without fail.

I have this image of me as a very old man with Alzheimer's and I can't remember my family are my friends but I can sit there and sing Copacabana without missing a beat.

I was on a high school trip in 93 and the Dead were playing where we were...a group of us snuck out and went to the show. It was amazing! I was in detention for weeks for that stunt, but it was worth it! Jerry passed not long after that. I actually was more afraid of my old man's punishment than any punishment from the school...he just laughed and said, "I'd have done the same...but you got to pay the price to the school"

I was a very unhip little kid and actually didn't know who he was, just that he was the guitarist in the band.

I thought it might be you, because you know, well it was dark and you know just inhaling the air in that room could cause your mind to play tricks, but it could have been Kevin.

Man he turned nasty...

At one time people thought he'd end up as a physicist, and then, well you know about it...that thing...

What a waste, a dangerous waste, but what a waste...
