Happy birthday, Patsy Cline.

Delete all other threads at DU. They are insignificant in comparison.

Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley; September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963) was an American country music singer. Part of the late 1950s/early 1960s Nashville sound, Cline successfully "crossed over" to pop music and was one of the most influential, successful and acclaimed vocalists of the 20th century. She died at the age of 30 in a multiple-fatality crash of the private plane of her manager, Randy Hughes.

I can't come up with this nugget online, but if I am not mistaken, I heard years ago that she was number two in jukebox sales in 1959. You can probably win a bar bet on that one. Can anyone confirm this?

We've had lots of Patsy Cline videos at DU over the years, so let's go right to the top. If this isn't the greatest video ever, all hope is lost. Turn on your computer speakers and share this with everyone at work. If you're in a hurry (like, to clean out your cubicle as security watches), Patsy Cline comes on at 5:50. Good luck finding a vest like that.

I can't find a video of this:

Yeah, I know I posted this a few weeks back, but it is just too good:

Her first TV appearance:

If they'd put these old shows on TV, I'd never leave the house.

The recording engineers kept it in. Right at the end.

It's an awesome, iconic country song, all the more so because of Patsy's inability to not cry at the crucial moment.

Hell, it brings tears to my eyes even now. A powerful recording.

If you're ever in Nashville, I'd highly recommend visiting the Patsy Cline museum....which is located over the Johnny Cash museum, which is also a MUST DO!
