Did You Know?

In decades of service, the SR-71 “Blackbird” long-range reconnaissance aircraft was never hit by an enemy missile thanks not only to its stealthy profile, but its speed. When targeted by a missile, the standard operating procedure was to simply accelerate (the craft is capable of exceeding mach 3) and leave it behind.

There's a book called "Skunkworks" by Ben Rich who took over the group after Kelly Johnston retired.

It describes how they overcame the huge problems of how they got a plane to fly that fast and survive the heat issues of air resistance in her atmosphere.

I actually got to touch and look at one up close at the
Evergreen Air Museum in McMinnville Oregon, what a machine!.

But they may have something even faster now and may have had for years, talk of "Aurora" or other aircraft has been discussed for over a decade now.

Who knows what's up there?.
