teacher.

Thus, I first related to "TSWL" as a student, and then as a h. s. teacher!

Indeed, "TSWL" as well as "Up the Down Staircase" (books and films) (not to mention the turbulent times we lived in then) had a profound effect on an entire generation of educators.

Oh, and Christian Roberts? 😍

The great British actress Patricia Routledge played the teacher "Clinty Clintridge"

I saw "To Sir, With Love" the first time while crossing the Atlantic West bound on the SS United States, 50 years ago this past September.

I was 8! In retrospect, I would say that at times it was a bit boring for an 8 year old. We went to see a movie every day, but this was an ocean liner, not a cruise ship, so the things to do for children were rather limited. How many times can one walk the promenade deck? Still, I remember the voyage vividly and it is one of my most treasured memories of my youth.

If you're interested, I kept the menus from the First Class Dining Room and put up a thread of them a couple years back in the cooking and baking group.

You can see those here.

A bit of trivia. Lulu was married at one time to Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees.
