What I'm looking for is multiple-choice questions that assess basic knowledge of socialist theory. Such an instrument could be very useful for some simple little research projects I'm thinking about.

(1,068 posts)There is such a scale that is more universal, but should fit your needs. I have some problems with it myself, but then again I have problems with ANY system that relegates capitalism and republicanism to any sense of measurability in the first place.

(45,274 posts)it doesn't assess knowledge, but rather, attitudes. There is a role for this instrument--or something similar--in the project I'm thinking of, but I also need a measure of knowledge, because I want to see the relationship between positive or negative feelings about socialism and actual knowledge of what it is.
One hypothesis that might be advanced and tested with the Compass & the Knowledge of Socialism (KoS) scale is that many of those who react negatively to the term "socialism" actually have communitarian attitudes and values that they don't recognize as "socialist."
