I'd like for y'all to take a look at it. The title is "Ron Paul supports the death penalty for marijuana possession".
Worker's Power is doing an article on Paul and this was one thing I took out of it. Paul's supposed "anti drug law" stance is based strictly in his support of 10th Amendment "State's Rights" arguments. So if Mississippi, Tennessee, or even California enacted a law mandating the death penalty for marijuana possession, Paul would philosophically HAVE TO BE IN FAVOR OF IT.
The article also delves into Paul's fascist background. I'll link it when it's posted on the web site.

(6,238 posts)I'm interested to hear about Paul's Fascist background, because it surprises me. He seemed to be a legitimate libertarian, which I'd think would make him opposed to Fascism.

(11,481 posts)Patience Grasshopper? I'll post it here. It was written by comrade Mike and the editing is almost done.

(32,342 posts)I don't know much about his background, just that he's genuinely quite fascist. He's scarier than some of the neocons.

(11,481 posts)although the article didn't quite call him a fascist, it agreed that he was closer to a fascist than any of the other candidates.
Let me check and see if the site has it up yet. BRB.

(6,238 posts)I've always opposed Paul for his libertarian economic views, but he seems a lot better than any of the other Republicans on civil liberties and militarism. It seems odd that he could support Fascism and hold his libertarian views at the same time. Is his libertarianism just an act or am I missing something?

(11,481 posts)As the article explains, it's not that he's overtly a fascist, it's that his fetishism about the Constitution AS IT WAS WRITTEN OVER 200 YEARS AGO coinsides with MANY positions held by the fascists and gives them an entry into the "mainstream" of political thinking.
But it DOES lead to some "libertarian" contradictions. Also in the article, what about companies who would have the opportunity to pollute ACROSS state borders if this interpretation of the role of the Feds were adopted? Your state could have the best enviromental legislation in the whole country, but if your neighbor state has the WORST legislation, a polluting company could locate in your neighboring state and any pollution that crossed state borders wouldn't be penalized. Where is the libertarian "The rights to your fist ends at my nose" in this scenario?
Anyway, here's the article: http://www.workerspower.net/ron-paul-a-bigoted-reactionary-enemy-of-the-99

(62,270 posts)As Chomsky puts it, Ron Paul is basically an ultra-nationalist.
