Benedict Cumberbatch is looking out for his United States fans. At a Star Trek Into Darkness red carpet event, the actor revealed he’s trying to get Sherlock series 3 to air in the U.S. and U.K. simultaneously.

Sherlock series 1 and 2 aired in the United States on PBS several months after their premieres in the United Kingdom. Most U.S. Sherlock fans who are internet savvy decided that instead of waiting, thus find themselves getting spoiled on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook, they would just download the show illegally.

“I’m here literally on a mad two day break from [filming Sherlock],” Cumberbatch says in a video interview with VH1. “I’m in the middle of the second episode of the third season. It’s going great, it’s a great treat in store for you. Hopefully we’re going to broadcast it simultaneously at home and in the United States by the end of the year, I’m hoping. That is a hope we talked about a while ago.”

Airing the show in the U.S. and U.K. is more important than ever because the Sherlock series 3 premiere will very likely explain how Sherlock survived the fall that we see him take during the series 2 finale. That critical piece of information will almost certainly be spoiled all over the internet as soon as it airs.

You will enjoy it if and when you do get round to watching it from the beginning. There's only four episodes in season 1 with the pilot and three in season 2 - each an hour and half long exclusive of adverts. We don't have adverts here in the UK on BBC progs.

I think Jonny Lee Miller in your Elementary would've made a good "new" Dr Who next year but having played that role now in the way he does I don't think it would work.

I've seen one episode.

On a related note, I HAVE NOT seen Star Trek Into Darkness yet. I'm hoping it is at the IMAX theatre when I make a trip to D.C. and Baltimore this week. In fact, I'm going to check that right now.

some episodes I might even label as great, particularly the one that introduces Sebastian Moran.

It'll never touch Sherlock, of course, but as far as American network programming goes, you could do a lot worse.
