William Wyler gave Claire Trevor an old purse and broken high heel shoes. He had her minimize her make-up and ordered her not to comb her hair when she got up in the morning. He wanted her to look like the downtrodden character she was playing.

A doctor plots crimes so he can study criminal psychology.

11:00 AM -- THE DESPERADOES (1943)
When someone robs the town bank before he can, a bandit joins forces with the sheriff to catch the real crooks.

Cast: Randolph Scott, Claire Trevor, Glenn Ford

This is the film on which Budd Boetticher (then an assistant director) met Randolph Scott and Harry Joe Brown. More than a decade later the trio would team up for the famous "Ranown" series of westerns, such as The Tall T (1957) and Ride Lonesome (1959).

A gold robber tries to reform in the middle of a big heist.

The name of the Alhambra Hotel and Bar was previously used by MGM in the 1946 award winning film The Harvey Girls starring Judy Garland and John Hodiak. Although her voice was dubbed, Angela Landsbury's character Em performed many a song and dance in the Alhambra. The Alhambra hotel name can still be found today in the U.S. and around the world.

A gambler comes to the aid of a victim of a jewel thief, only to find out he might know the victim better than he thinks.

Based on a story by Allan Dwan, a director (407 credits!) and writer (53 credits), from the early days of silents (1909) to 1961.

When the gangster for whom he took the rap welches, a convict breaks out of prison to get revenge.

Jane Randolph was wanted for the role of Pat Cameron. However, she turned it down, as she was upset at being uncredited in Anthony Mann's previous picture, T-Men. Claire Trevor was eventually cast.

A murderer marries a young innocent then goes after her more experienced sister.

Arnett (Walter Slezak) quotes the Bible twice. "I find more bitter than death the woman ...", is from Ecclesiastes 7:26, though it is not an exact quote from the standard bibles, and "... the way of the transgressor is hard..." (sic) from Proverbs 13:15. Arnett's quote, "Where every prospect pleases and only man is vile...", is from the hymn, "From Greenland's Icy Mountains", lyrics by Reginald Heber.


10:00 PM -- MURDER, MY SWEET (1944)
Detective Philip Marlowe's search for a two-timing woman leads him to blackmail and murder.

Cast: Dick Powell, Claire Trevor, Anne Shirley

In order to make Mike Mazurki more threatening, Edward Dmytryk had the sets built with slanted ceilings to force the perspective. As Mazurki walked closer to the camera, he seemed almost to grow.

An art critic risks his reputation and his life to track down a forgery racket.

Cast: Pat O'Brien, Claire Trevor, Herbert Marshall

The ship Pat O'Brien goes to is riding so high at the dock that it is obviously empty, even though it is due to sail at 1:00 a.m. with a cargo.


2:00 AM -- KEY LARGO (1948)
A returning veteran tangles with a ruthless gangster during a hurricane.

Cast: Humphrey Bogart, Edward G. Robinson, Lauren Bacall

Won an Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role -- Claire Trevor

In a classic case of a director being emotionally manipulative, John Huston informed Claire Trevor that they were to film her song that very day. Trevor was not a trained singer, and had not even rehearsed the song yet. She also felt very intimidated by the A-list actors seated directly in front of her. The result was a hesitant, nervous, uncomfortable rendition, exactly the feeling Huston was hoping to get.

A policewoman goes undercover to infiltrate a drug smuggling ring.
