This is the gem in this series, although they're all good.

"Night of the Hunter" is notable for several reasons. First, it's the only movie directed by Charles Laughton. He gave up directing reportedly because this film didn't get the critical acclaim it enjoys today although it could also be because he much preferred working on stage productions rather than film.

Second, The cinematography is almost hypnotically breathtaking, especially during the children's trip down the river.

After watching this movie, one must feel that we lost many other such masterpieces crafted by Laughton had he not stopped directing.

Out of the Past is pretty incredible as film noir goes. The acting is top notch with Kirk Douglas, Mitchum, and Jane Greer all turning in fine performances. Douglas is notably chilling. The B/W cinematography is first rate.

Enemy Below is notable for a variety of reasons. First, it was directed by Dick Powell. Acting is good, as is the tense plot. But most of all, it was remade as Star Trek episode Balance of Terror which in the lore of the original Star Trek series had notable firsts. It introduced Romulans to the story line. It was also the debut of actor Mark Lenard to the series as the Romulan captain. Of course, Lenard would return as Spock's father Sarek in several episodes and numerous of the films. It was his iconic role. But first he was a Romulan.
