(1,296 posts)1. I saw 'A Face in the Crowd' last night
for the 1st time. Excellent movie!!! Griffith had quite a range to be able to pull that one off. It was one of those movies...especially the powerful last scene that kind of lingered...you know?
In an attempt to find that last scene on youtube, I ran across this one instead - which is even more apropos now then it was in 1957, as the poster 'TheVideoMizer' alludes to:
"Meet Lonesome Rhodes: This is a great movie with Andy Griffith. This is a comment from the movie I thought might have meaning to some people. Power in the media...."
Edited to add this clip which is the same drivel being touted today by most Republicans and the one-note Tea Party mentality:
Kudos to Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau for superb acting as well! I didn't realize that Elia Kazan was responsible for bringing Marlon Brando & James Dean to the forefront. Additionally, it's easy to see why this is rated as 4 stars...though quite sad in a way that most movies in this day and age are rarely so gritty and honest.
As an interesting side note, wiki has this:
"The film launched Griffith into stardom, but earned mixed reviews upon its original release. Later decades have seen reappraisals of the movie, and in 2008 A Face in the Crowd was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
