I sang this along with Orff’s prescribed orchestration (lots of timpanis! So many timpanis!). I was standing directly behind one of them and, literally, if I had moved my score a quarter inch forward, the timpani player would have knocked it right out of my hands. The choir hated learning Carmina Burana but, at the end, when all those timpanis had done their thing and silence had finally descended on the audience, the feeling was one of pure elation.

Unlike “The Requiems Three” (Mozart, Faure, and Durufle), I never volunteered to sing Carmina Burana again.

But I do like this version..

We are told to imitate our betters... guess we'll have to go into town and chase young boys....

The Church sat on the pedophilia problem in its midst for centuries.
