Music Appreciation
Related: About this forumIn the 45 years that I've been a fan, there is one main theme to the music I love - It's the guitar
There are exceptions of course, for instance I love Elton John and to a lesser degree Billy Joel banging on the piano.
I've been a fan of several saxophone players over the years as well. And of course no one can deny the power of the truly gifted vocalist (don't let Glamrock know I said that) to move us.
But the thread that ties my love of Rock, Blues, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, Country and Metal into a bundle is the guitar.
So I will play -loudly- Chet Atkins' "Country Gentleman" and St Vincent's "The Actor" while I search the net for Big Bill Broonzie 78s that I never heard before...
There are people here who have as deep and abiding passion about which ever aspect of music that they've nurtured in their hearts all these years - and they are willing to share
In the 5 years I've been here as either a member or lurker, I learned as much or more than the past 3 decades of reading magazines and participating in online music forums.
Folks on DU MA are willing to listen and willing to share their own hidden favorites without all the screeching disagreement and pissy judgement you find on so on many on line forums. So thanks people. All of you guys rock
Here is one last little secret - the digs I occasionally put out about Opera are fake, I don't hate it, the jokes are fossils I carried with me from a previous board - where I had arguments with a big Opera buff who was almost as much of an ass as I can be.
So, I won't try to name check all the people who I love (in a not only platonic, but ANONYMOUS way) because I'm getting old and there was a lot of heavy drinking in my past - so I am guaranteed to miss several

Speaking of which, Willie's Xruel World is in it! I was all grins while it played lemme tell ya. Mrs Glam was all, "lookat your face! "

IMHO, The Captain and Me was the perfect "Tommy's Version" of the Doobies, and it remains on of the best road trip records ever made
Thanx so much for the reminder.

(13,192 posts)The guitar is tasty and never too flashy the counter play of vocals and guitars is always fluid and seems natural...

(7,349 posts)Headliners were; Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Wishbone Ashe, Genesis, and Focus....brought Wishbone Ash and Focus albums back to the states, no one had heard of them before. Anyone who heard that album went out and bought it. Funny part is, I didn't get into Genesis (with Peter Gabriel at that time) until much later....too flashy I'm thinking....
Haven't heard this song in a long time, thanks for posting!
