Mr. Lebowski has me spending my lunch hour google hunting songs

What can I say - I'm easy to trigger over music - especially legendary songs like "Sunday Morning Coming Down" which compelled me to share my favorite version...

Which in turn made me want to share the album "Classic Cash Hall of Fame Series", recorded in 1988. This record has Johnny re-recording 74 old tunes in a modern (For the late 80's anyway) studio.

Some Johnny fans dismiss the record, but I love it - several of these takes are easily my favorite versions of the songs.

Especially Tennessee Flat Top Box, Sunday Morning Coming Down and this:

As a self identified Cash aficionado, I think these later in life re-recordings do add a certain level of power and gravitas to the songs, particularly "Long Black Veil"

I think this album was really a precursor to what Cash would do during the "American Recordings" later in life, which are really masterpieces all in themselves.

And Mr Lebowski...we love you bro and have your back! Wish you were here in Nashville for Isbell's annual Ryman stent!

Fuck I wish I could see Jason at the Ryman

I'm making the music list for my dads service next Sat. and just before popping in here, I'd decided on Cash's version of Desperado (my dad was a BIG Eagles fan, esp. that song ... kinda his theme song ... I decided to mix it up a bit with Cash version though). It's from Am Rec IV. It's pretty awesome ...

Noone did covers better than Johnny.

His version of Rusty Cage is so fucking good that even Soundgarden thinks it's better.

Hope the service goes well today my friend. You are in my thoughts.
