Even the "live action' stuff amused him.

(1,213 posts)He took me to lots of horror movies, but movies like 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' horrified him!

(19,820 posts)I was lucky my dad loved music like he did, he always expected us to learn everything, look at every picture,
read everything. No bias, no restrictions.

(1,213 posts)...my Dad's strengths and values were different from my Mom's in that he was just more practical, stern, and conservative/traditional. They are still quite the Yin/Yang pair!

(16,876 posts)My favorite RHPS screening was a summer night outside our hospital tents in Afghanistan, projected on some sheets we had thrown on a wire. It was certainly memorable.

(16,876 posts)Kind of like M*A*S*H, except more austere. We were imbedded with the Marines that we were taking care of after injury. The summer we were there was the busiest for US, NATO, and local injuries...the movie night was one of the few moments of escape we had, and, ironically ended like a M*A*S*H episode with casualties arriving.

(1,213 posts)and movie nights ending with casualties arriving really paints a more detailed picture for me, since I used to watch reruns all the time. I cannot imagine how you were able to perform surgeries in such a high-stress environment! Amazing!! Thank You for your dedicated service Docreed2003, from a long-time Army Brat of a career soldier.

(33,643 posts)Pleasant Hill (SunValley Mall), The Strand in SF, UC Theater in Berkeley ... great times, lot o' my friends were into it ... also, Song Remains the Same, The Wall, Tommy, Heavy Metal, Eraserhead, etc.
Anyways I got fairly tired of every other tune on the soundtrack after a while (well, except Science Fiction) cause they're so 'show-tuney' ... but never this one. It's the one track I consider a 'real song', not a 'show tune' like the rest of them (well, maybe the Meat Loaf song too).
Tim vocals are absolutely stellar, and heartfelt, and the words are brilliant and universal, not tied to the film/show like 'Sweet Transvestite' ... Richard O' Brien (the creator of RHS/RHPS, and Riff-Raff in the movie) really nailed it on this one. This could've been a hit on the radio, easily ...
