Related: About this forumAnybody have a favorite pedal steel guitar solo?
I have a lot of favorites.
Rainy Day Woman by Waylon Jennings has a great steel part.
Ralph Mooney was hotter than a Texas sidewalk in July.

(8,048 posts)but there's a Memphis Slim song called "For a Day." It's an instrumental. I don't know who the pedal steel player is, but it's fantastic (and totally unlike anything else on any Memphis Slim cut I've ever heard).
I also like the solo in the Rolling Thunder version of "It Ain't Me Babe" on Dylan's bootleg series vol. 5.

(8,048 posts)alas, lost these many years.
At the beginning it almost sounds like a wah wah pedal, but this was recorded decades before that was invented.
Wish I could find the longer version, but this is nice too. The longer version was called "For a Day" but I see here it's "'Fore Day."
Best wishes.

(3,733 posts)It has a lot of energy. I saw RR and his Family Band play on Austin City Limits.
It's a joy to watch as well as listen to.
