Lemme school ya. The Small Face were Ian McClagan (sp?) on keys, Ronnie Lane on bass, Kenny Jones (who replaced Keith Moon in the Who) on drums, and the greatest Singer in rock n roll history (in my less than humble opinion) on guitar and bass. Mod group during the British invasion. Some hits: Itchykoo Park, Lazy Sunday Afternoon, Tin Soldier.

Well, Steve left and formed Humble Pie with Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley, and Greg Ridley in '69. One of the first "super groups" of the late 60's.

Of course, this left The Small Faces in a bind. So, they recruited Ron Wood and Rod Stewart who had just finished their tenure with The Jeff Beck Group and called the new project The Faces. And of course, Rod Stewart's voice and stage presence were so incredible, he became more famous than the band and he left. What a shame. They were so fucking good.

P. S. During the American tour, they had a bar and a fucking bartender ON STAGE! How cool is that?

Kind of explains that weird thing that was going on at the beginning of the song in that video.

(Rod Stewart looking at the first guy and giving him the old "are you done? can I sing now?" look.

These are groups that were around when I was either unborn, or 1-5. I had cut my musical teeth during the "hair band" era. Was in quite a few in Chicago trying to "make it". Then Nirvana came along and, for better or for worse, changed everything. I was never a particularly depressed dude, so it wasn't my scene (not that I didn't love Sound garden and Alice in Chains). But I started drifting towards heavier stuff. Early Metallica, Anthrax, Ministry....
I was at a buddy's place and dropped LSD for the first time. While that trip was happenin, I heard The Black Crowes second LP.... The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion and my musical life changed. I was all about roots rock. And I started digging into the roots of said rock. I found all these awesome singers that put current ones to shame (I'm a front man by the by). Steve Marriott, Paul Rogers, Otis, Marvin, Sam n Dave, Rod, Leon. Life changing experience. And I ain't looked back.
