It was Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and U2.

Maggie's Farm was their encore song.

Never heard 'em play it any other time ... but it was AWESOME.

First time I saw U2 was for Joshua Tree in 87 down near USC at eh Sports Arena.
Their unannounced special guest who joined them on stage? Bob Dylan.
Knocking on Heaven's Door. Just epic.

Love me some Dylan, but love me some Dylan covers better, most of the time.

Sophie B still one of the best Dylan covers I've ever heard.

Well, I think it was a 3 night stand IIRC, so maybe not the EXACT same show ... Pretty sure I went Friday night which I think was the middle night. We hung out for hours afterwards by the gate where all the limo's were leaving, and FINALLY U2 drove out and Bono was standing out the roof of the limo high-fiving as they drove through the crowd ... and I got a high-five! Little Steven actually walked out and mingled with the people there for a while too. He wasn't playing or anything.

Saw 'em in SF, LA, and SD in like a 12 day span. It was right around spring break, April 1987.

Those indoor Joshua Tree shows right after the album dropped were FUCKING AMAZING.

Also saw 'em later in the Winter on the outdoor leg, at Oakland Coliseum. The Bodeans and Pretenders (when Johnny Marr was in the band) were the openers.

the Vaillancourt Fountain in the Embarcadero when they did a free gig in SF over the summer (later shown in Rattle and Hum)?

DiFi publicly bitched him out, she was still mayor then, and actually pressed vandalism charges on him?

So at the Oakland Coliseum Show, he invited Vaillancourt himself onto the stage and gave him giant paint rollers, and he proceeded to paint the walls on the stage at the U2 show?

Good times man ...
