of whiskey in his hand and bitching about fashions while watching the Oscars last night. Russ Solomon died of a heart attack at the age of 92.
I have "Tower Record" price labels on many of my albums from the Tower store in Greenwich Village , NYC. Thank you Russ!

(2,559 posts)I remember shopping a Tower Records in Berkeley in the '70's. I got a lot of vinyl from the "cutout" bins. They'd punch a hole in a corner for stuff they wanted to get rid of. That was good for classical stuff and building a collection of orchestral standards. Not always the best performances, sound, or pressing, but I considered it part of my education.
I do remember buying cutouts there that cigarette ashes on the vinyl. But what the hell.
I *think* Tower was started in Sacramento, but I'd have to google that to be sure. I still have all that vinyl.
