Paul tries to tell the usual stories, like “Yesterday came to me in a dream” (which amazingly, Colbert had never heard), but Colbert then steers the interview into an examination of grief, Colbert over losing his father at a young age, Paul over losing his mom...he was clearly taken aback (he was there to promote his kids book “Hey Grandude!”), but rolled with it, and gave some of the most reflective, as opposed to reflexive, answers I’ve ever heard him give.

Vastly different than say, Carpool Karaoke with James Corden...
