"you got the whole damn thing all wrong"

I was a 16 year old junior in Catholic school when Aqualung came out and it quickly became my favorite album of my high school years. My first concert was Jethro Tull.

I haven't given it much thought over the years but I still love that album even though my musical tastes have changed a lot. I wondered whether it had a negative influence on me all those years ago, but I didn't realize how much it influenced me until I recently listened to it from start to finish and of course I was singing all of the lyrics.

I always thought Ian Anderson was an underrated genius and the band was at the top of its form. I loved their blend of blues, rock, jazz and folk.

As I listened to the final track I realize that Aqualung made me a better person.

3. I listened to Thick As a Brick too

It's gotten even better over the years.

2. A classic ... I have it on vinyl.

When I was a student at Kent State, Jethro Tull played a concert in the gymnasium, and as my friend and I were too poor to buy tickets, we sat outside the building and could still sorta hear the music. People did that back in those days.

4. A Truly Great Album

Every song is a gem.
We covered Hymn 43 & Locomotive Breath. Those were in our list of "don't rehearse, just toss them in now & then, and see what happens" songs.
Guys were quite shocked one night when I tossed out LB, then suddenly quit playing piano, picked up a flute & played the solo.
My tone wasn't great throughout, but I played the thing pretty faithfully.
Big fun!
I saw them twice. Once, they played in a big high school fieldhouse in my hometown of 70,000 people. They played there instead of Chicago! We were 4th row center!!!

5. That's great that you could cover Tull!

I saw them on the Thick As a Brick tour. Being my first live concert, I was pretty blown away. Of course Aqualung was still fresh so it was an awesome treat. Not to mention the stage show.
